The company’s European plant has been set up on the former Carbobois site in Châtelet, in a 10,000 m² building along the Sambre river and surrounded by other recycling-sector players. The objective is to process 20,000 tonnes of used polymers by the end of the year at this facility, which will operate 24/7.

Why Wallonia?
In 2019, the group chose Wallonia after responding to the “Circular Wallonia” call for projects launched by the Walloon Government and SRIW for the construction of plastic recycling plants. The Canadian group was attracted by the efficiency of Belgium’s plastic waste treatment system, the availability of industrial land, and access to a skilled workforce.
The Châtelet plant is only the beginning of Lavergne’s European expansion, with the ambition to grow its activities across Europe from its Walloon base.
Lavergne and the circular economy
Since China banned imports of solid waste (including plastics), industries have been facing growing volumes of waste to process. Lavergne has developed a circular solution that transforms plastic waste into high value-added, sustainable resins. These 100% recycled resins are then sold in pellet form to moulding companies.
